SELF DETERMINATION & WALKING
In order to be fully alive and to act on one’s potential, one needs to be in charge. Mobility is an important factor in facilitating self-empowerment for seniors. There’s no substitute for walking in order to be fully alive. Walking is crucial for maintaining physical and emotional well-being. Cognitive skills are closely linked to walking on a daily basis.
Mobility ensures independence and social contacts, making it a big factor in “joy of life”.
APPRECIATION
In retirement there is loss of appreciation from others. Therefore new areas of interest and meaning need to be cultivated as ways to experience value and appreciation.
A POSITIVE ATTITUDE THROUGH MEANING
As the years go by, it may be necessary to reexamine goals and the meaning of life. Planning for the future and long term goals are most powerful when linked to a true sense of purpose.
RHYTHM OF LIFE
Day to day activities provide rhythm and structure. In retirement it is a challenge to create a new schedule, but without it there is confusion and boredom. With it, there is time to deepen contacts and to experience new joys.
All of the above qualities are components to experience the “joy of life”.
