Quite often there is a diagnosis of polyneuropathy (numbness in fingers, arms and legs) in the elderly. This may not always be correct.
Numbness in fingers, arms and legs – with or without a gait disturbance – may be due to narrowing of spinal canal in the cervical (neck) region.
Numbness in the fingers may also be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome or by an impingement of the ulnar nerve at the medial epicondyle or wrist.
Diagnostic studies will be necessary for correct treatment.
