The three most common causes for frequent falls are:
- Weakness and atrophy of muscles
- Dizziness
- Medications
To get to the root of the actual causes, it is necessary to examine the interactions between medications (side effects) more closely and to rule out any muscle weakness or dizziness.
Comprehensive diagnostic testing is usually required to investigate the dizziness.
The older the patient, the more important it is to rule out narrowing of the spinal canal in the cervical spine (cervical stenosis) as a cause of dizziness and unsteadiness.
