The range of therapies on offer emphasises a holistic approach to neurosurgery. In principle, non-surgical methods are used, surgical solutions are necessary if paralysis or loss of bladder and bowel control is imminent or has already occurred. Another important reason for surgery is if the patient’s walking distance shrinks to less than 300 metres.
The aim is to support patients on all three levels – body, mind and spirit – and to strengthen their self-efficacy. Ideally, the patient takes an active role and decides which therapeutic approach to follow.
In most cases, the proposed therapy initially consists of a combination of physiotherapy to build muscle, encouragement to walk actively every day, and individual pain management.
Particularly in older people, incorrect walking aids (crutches), poor footwear (slippers), one-sided movements (sitting at a computer), unsuitable seating (TV armchairs) and medication (sleeping pills and sedatives) are often the cause of musculoskeletal complaints.
COMPREHENSIVE AFTERCARE
To ensure long-term treatment success, aftercare – or support extending beyond the medical treatment itself – is very important.
How is this implemented?
- Routine aftercare (without costs) for 3 months postoperatively
- Get well at home
- Personal support during surgical procedures, from anaesthesia through to waking up
- Support in selecting home help and mobile physiotherapy
